Privacy, and health-related information
What you write here is yours. We do not sell it, we do not advertise against it, and we do not use it to train anyone else’s models.
Some of what you record is health-related information about your child. Several US states treat that as a special category with its own rules, and we treat it that way everywhere, not only where we are required to.
You decide who can see each note. People you invite see only what you have chosen to share with them.
You can export everything, and you can delete everything. Deleting means deleted, including from backups as they rotate.
We keep raw audio for 30 days and then it is gone. The written note stays until you delete it.
Health-related information about your child has its own page, because several US states treat it as a separate category with its own rules. It is at /health-data.
This policy describes how Chorus actually works today. If we change how we handle your information in a way that matters, we will tell you and ask you again before the change applies.
What we collect
Account details: your name, email address, your phone number if you sign in by phone, and the identifier Apple or Google gives us if you sign in with them.
Invitations: who invited you, whom you invite, and the email address or phone number an invitation was sent to.
Your child’s record: the child’s name and anything you or the people you invite add — notes, voice recordings and their transcripts, and photos — including health-related information.
Your care team: the names and roles you give the people you invite, and their contact details if you add them.
Consents and settings: what you agreed to and when, and who can see each note.
Technical data: device type, operating system, app version, time zone, IP address and a notification token; sign-in and security logs; and usage events that record which screen and action was used and never contain note content, names or free text.
How we use it
To run Chorus for you: to sign you in, store your child’s record, turn a recording into a written note, show each person only what you chose to share with them, send the notifications and texts you asked for, and produce exports.
To keep Chorus safe: to protect accounts, links and the record from misuse, and to find and fix errors.
We do not sell your information, we do not advertise against it, and we do not use it to train anyone else’s models.
Who we share it with
The people you choose: a parent you invite to keep the record with you sees what you see, and everyone else you invite sees only what you choose to share with them.
Companies that provide the services Chorus runs on: Neon (database), Cloudflare (file storage), Vercel and Fly.io (hosting), Deepgram or AssemblyAI (speech to text), Anthropic (tidying notes, reading a photographed paper sheet, and the optional AI features if you turn them on), Resend (email), Twilio (text messages), Expo, Apple and Google (notifications and sign-in), and Sentry (error reports, with personal data removed).
When the law requires it, or to protect a child’s safety.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Text messages (SMS)
If you sign in with your phone number, or ask for your invitation by text, we use that number only to text you the sign-in codes or the invitation you asked for. Twilio delivers the texts for us.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile numbers and consent to receive texts are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Message frequency varies: one text each time you ask for a sign-in code, and an invitation if you asked for one, which we may send again while it is open. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any text to stop them, or HELP for help, or write to hello@chorus.family. How it works is at /text-messages.
If you reply STOP, we send no more texts to that number, apart from one message confirming you have opted out; reply START to opt back in. Deleting your account in Settings removes the number from your account. To have it removed from our invitation records as well, write to hello@chorus.family.
Version 1.0.0. If it changes in a way that matters, Chorus asks again and shows what changed.
